Welcome to my blog. I'm a wife, momma, and a change maker. Thanks for joining my journey.

for the love of one

for the love of one

The Martin family is embarking on yet another adventure.

I know what you may be thinking… and YES WE ARE CRAZY! We have found that there is no better place to be than in God’s hands, and He continues to lead us and we will continue to follow. Seeing the blessings and promises answered through the hardships has given us the hope and endurance to keep moving forward.

Adoption has been on my radar since I was in high school. I knew from a young age that one of the biggest reasons the Lord put me on this earth was to serve children in need. My heart beats for children so passionately that my sweet, sweet husband asks me regularly if we can have one date night/ conversation without talking about what we will do next to help the children in our community. It’s in my DNA. It’s how I was created.

I believe God gives us all things that make our heart skip a beat. Causes or adventures that keep us up at night thinking and wondering. And I also believe that it is our job to live out those passions and dreams.

What’s yours? Take away the distractions of this world and what’s left? What makes your heart beat? What injustice angers you to the point of rage? Or tears? What experience has changed you forever for the better?

I believe God blesses moments of reflection when we slow down enough to think and meditate.

THIS IS SO HARD FOR ME. “SLOW DOWN” is not in my makeup. I have to make a conscious effort to do so, and even still I suck at it.  It’s not meant to be easy for everyone, but the reward is so great. It’s in the moments of thinking and reflection that you hear things that you might not have heard while you’re doing/going to the next thing. Sometimes you hear nothing at all in these moments, but the quiet refreshes your soul and leads you down a wonderful thought process. Either way, God has taught me so much in these quiet times and has spoken so clearly.

Which begins our journey of adoption.

In Church, this morning we sang “ Your Love Is Fierce” by Jesus Culture and tears came running.

Before I call
Before I ever cry
You answer me
From where the thunder hides
I can't outrun
This heart I'm tethered to
When every step
I collide with You

Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce
Like a hurricane
That I can't escape
Tearing through the atmosphere

Your love is fierce

You cannot fail
The only thing I've found
Is through it all
You never let me down

You don't hold back
Relentless in pursuit
At every turn
I come face to face with You

You surround me
You chase me down
You seek me out

How can I be lost when You have called me found
You chase me down
You seek me out

Even now You surround me
Your love is fierce
Always, always
His love is fierce

I thought of two things while singing these lyrics. The all-encompassing, never-ending love of God is so overwhelming… and all you have to do to receive it is ask.

The second thing that came to my mind... are all the sweet babies out there who have never experienced this kind of love. Who are just waiting. If my family can help even one child experience that love, isn’t that a sweet victory?

So then comes the prayer we have had from the start.

For the Love of One.

Adopting a child might not change the world, but for that child, the world will change.

And this my friends settles my heart.

Takes me right to the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Where the shepherd leaves his flock of ninety-nine sheep in order to find the one which is lost.

YES, the foster care system is broken, and how we treat our kids in this country can be flat out wrong.

BUT there are SO many people out there fighting the good fight to make change for the better. And our prayer is to be a part of that change.

I hope this encourages YOU to jump all in with whatever you are passionate about, whether you are 10 or 80. If you’re on this earth right now, there is still time.

And to all the AMAZING men and women out there making a difference in the lives of children in need. YOU ARE THE CHANGEMAKERS. Don’t lose hope. Because after all, didn’t Jesus say, “Whatever you do for the least of these my brother and sisters, you do for me”. Matthew 25:40

There are many types of adoption. We are working with an incredible Christian agency focused on finding homes for children in need. We will be adopting right here in the USA.

We have completed the mountain of paperwork and the many trainings, and are in the middle of our home study. Next up is our family profile and applying to agencies. Then we wait. And pray.

Everly and Eloise are pretty stoked to have a baby sister/brother. JK...they have no clue ;) But more kids means more fun, right? :)

We would love for you to follow along with us through this challenging yet rewarding time.
